The latest monthly unemployment figures reveal that there are over 200 women unemployed in the Lochee ward.
Lochee councillor Norma McGovern responded to the unemployment statistics saying,
“ This out-of-touch Government has made life extremely difficult for women who are looking for work with its policies that have created cut backs in council jobs and health service jobs.
“Family-friendly employment in the public sector is preferred by many women.
“However, when these jobs are being cut so quickly and so severely, it’s women who are affected the worst.
“ To get women back into work, the Tory-Lib Dem Government needs to call a halt to its cuts programme and invest money in the public sector instead to create jobs.”
The figures for the number of those claiming Job Seekers Allowance break down as :
97 in the central Lochee area
77 in the Charleston area
64 in the Menzieshill area
